Alberto and his wife Kathy are new missionaries with Grace church. They have a one year old daughter and are expecting another child later this year.  Alberto experienced salvation while at a summer camp at age 16.  After college graduation, Alberto moved to Guadalajara and began teaching in several Bible studies and weekly youth gatherings.  God used this time to show him the need for sound doctrine and biblical preaching.  In searching for a place that would equip him for pastoral ministry, God led him to the Masters Seminary in S. California where he received his Masters of Divinity and Masters of Theology.  Alberto and his wife then returned to Guadalajara where Alberto currently serves as teaching Pastor at Iglesia Comunidad Biblica.  They have seen rapid growth in the church as Alberto faithfully teaches and preaches the gospel.  Discipleship classes and new ministries have started, including new membership classes and young adults groups.  Alberto travels often to attend and speak at national and regional conferences.  He has a vision to bring sound doctrine and teaching to the church throughout Latin America, as the Lord leads him.  Pray for God's grace, strength and wisdom to Alberto and his family as they seek to glorify God in both their ministry and family life.

May 2019 Newsletter

Dear friends and supporters, greetings from hot, sunny Mexico. May is the hottest month of the year, with temperatures reaching over 100 degrees. Recently Alberto preached on Jesus’ words in John 4:38, “others have labored and you have entered into their labor.” Salvation belongs to God, and it is He that directs people, circumstances and events for His glory as He saves His people. As we testify of the saving power of His Gospel, we enter into His work and that of countless men and women that have gone before us and partner with us in this endeavor. He saves, we are merely tools in the Lord’s hands.

Church life

These last few months we have seen the church grow yet again. Visitors come in every Sunday, and the Lord continues adding those that are being saved. Continue to pray for us that, as ministry gets tougher and counseling takes longer, we may continue to faithfully serve new comers and be a blessing to them. And pray for those coming and staying, that they may find intentional discipleship and commitment.

Alberto leading the church in singing, while Kathy plays the piano. Since the church’s music leader left to attend The Master’s Seminary, Alberto has been back to leading music while he equips other men to help in this ministry.
Alberto teaching Fundamental of Faith class. Pray for those attending, as they deepen their love for Jesus and confidence in God’s Word.
The church’s Fundamentals of Faith class also serves as our membership class. Meaning, most of those attending are looking at becoming new members. Pray for them, as they develop intentional friendships at church and pursue holiness in community.
A resent new practices that we’ve adopted, is the giving out of books for free. Every Wednesday night, Alberto hands out free books to church goers, in order to promote theologically sound resources and reading in discipleship groups. The people have responded very well. Your generous donations makes this ministry possible—thank you!
Like we highlighted in our last newsletter, one of the many ministries opportunities we’ve been blessed by is weddings. This has proven to be a wonderful opportunity to share the gospel with non-Christian attendees. This month he officiated the wedding of Carolina & Jakub Laurovic.

Family update

As we head into the summer, we are thrilled that Kathy is due in only four weeks. Lord willing our second daughter, Ana Elena, will come around mid-June. We couldn’t be any happier! Please pray for Kathy in these last weeks of pregnancy, and for the baby as she is sitting sideways.

Visiting a small town outside of Guadalajara.
This past Sunday, Alberto graduated in absentia from The Master’s Seminary. Although he had already completed all of the Master of Theology required courses before moving to Mexico, he needed to finish his thesis. Praise the Lord it’s done! His thesis, under the supervision of Dr. Osborne, was: “The Messianic Banquet: An Investigation into the Eschatological Implications of the Lord’s Supper.
Harold and Eddie visiting us from Grace Church Napa Valley, CA. Thank you for your visit!

Prayer requests

  • The last Sunday of the month we’ll be celebrating baptisms and new members presentation. Please pray for those getting baptized and those joining the church, that they may continue to grow in holiness and knowledge, and that those visiting would see a visual testimony of the power of God for salvation.
  • For Alberto, as he plans out the preaching schedule for the next half of 2019. Pray for wisdom and that the Holy Spirit may powerfully use God’s Word from this church’s pulpit. Pray also for his teaching ministry as he wraps up OT Survey and Theology classes before the summer.
  • For Kathy as she heads into the last weeks of her second pregnancy. Pray for the baby, Ana Elena, that she may turn rightly so that this may be a natural birth.

April 2019 Newsletter

Dear friends and family,

In John 4 we are reminded that Jesus is the only source of both eternal life, as well as complete satisfaction in this life. He is the only one that can forgive sins, redeem those whom the Father calls, restore broken lives, and present to God worshippers that worship in spirit and truth. In short, Jesus is enough.

Thank you for your continuous prayers and support. We love you and pray for you as well. Here’s a brief update on how things are going in the field.

Alberto’s trip to the US

This last March Alberto traveled to the US to attend several events. First, he traveled to Arizona to visit our dear friends at San Tan Bible Church (Gilbert, AZ). There he had a wonderful time with pastor Clay Miller and the church’s leadership. Next he visited Los Angeles to attend TMAI’s annual symposium and Shepherds’ Conference. Finally, he traveled to Washington D.C. to attend a 9Marks weeklong intensive workshop. All in all, this was an encouraging time for Alberto, as he spent time catching up with fellow pastors and missionaries, and being refreshed by God’s Word.

Attending The Master’s Academy International’s annual symposium. We are excited to be part of this wonderful institution. TMAI’s focus is on training indigenous leadership, by training them on sound theology, expository preaching, pastoral ministry, biblical counseling, all for the benefit of the local church.
At Capitol Hill Baptist Church in Washington D.C., during one of the many Q&A’s with Mark Dever and one of 9Marks authors. Alberto was able to sit and learn from godly men who are producing exciting resources with local churches in mind, such as Jonathan Leeman, Bobby Jamieson, and Jamie Dunlop.
In Mark Dever’s office, observing one his weekly meetings with Capitol Hill Baptist Church’s interns and staff pastors.
With fellow pastors from various Spanish speaking countries, also attending the 9Marks Intensive Program. They came from Costa Rica, Dominical Republic, Guatemala, Mexico, Paraguay, Puerto Rico and Spain. Pray for them, as they have returned to their countries and continue serving the Lord faithfully.
With Word of Grace Bible Seminary’s faculty. Because most of them are located in Mexico City’s main location, it’s always a treat for Alberto to spend time with them in person.

Please continue to pray for the work that TMAI is doing throughout the world in their local seminaries. And pray for our friends at 9Marks, that God may continue using them to equip pastors everywhere.

Ministry update

Praise the Lord, He continues to richly bless this local church. We recently launched a new ministry for young adults, and it has proven to be wonderful. Comprised of singles ages 24+ and young married couples, we have had sweet times of fellowship. As the group develops, we hope to use this as an opportunity for intentional discipleship and to encourage greater service and commitment to Christ and His Word.

Hosting the church’s young adults group for an evening of fellowship and encouragement. Kathy is an incredible host, receiving people at our home on weekly basis (sometimes daily basis!).
With the young adults group at church. We are currently reading through the book “Sound Doctrine: How a Church Grows in the Love and Holiness of God,” by Bobby Jamieson.
Marco Serna, elder at church, teaching the Fundamentals of Faith / Membership class, one of the core Adult Sunday School classes. Praise the Lord for more and more people joining this local congregation! Pray for them, as they take this step, and for us in leadership, that we may faithfully serve and shepherd them.
Remember how a few months ago we asked you to pray for more chairs, because the amount we had was not enough? Praise the Lord we have enough chairs! At least for now :). This is how the right wing of the meeting hall looks like, right before people arrive.
Last month Alberto participated in a local Simeon Trust workshop. It is exciting to see what God is doing in this region through likeminded ministries. Just a few years ago, as we were getting ready to come, none of these ministries were here. The Lord is doing wonderful things in this city!

Please pray for the men that are helping Alberto teach the Fundamentals of Faith / Membership class, Marco and Edgar, that God may grant them wisdom in order to faithfully teach and encourage the new people that have recently started attending church.

Family update

While Alberto was traveling in the US, Raphael, Kathy’s brother, and his wife came to visit us in Mexico for a couple of weeks. It was nice for Kathy to have someone in the house while Alberto was gone for so long. They enjoyed their time in Mexico, getting to know our city and surroundings, and especially spending time with their niece, Sophia. She even took her first steps with them :). It was a huge blessing and encouragement having them with us.

Sophia with Raphael and Alexandra, Kathy’s brother and sister-in-law. Sophia really enjoys every time she gets to see them.
One of the many ministries opportunities we’ve been blessed by, is weddings :). Alberto started off the year with his first ceremony, officiating the wedding of a young couple from church. This has proven to be a wonderful moment to share the gospel with non-Christian attendees.

Coming up this month

  • Having implemented membership 8 months ago, we will be conducting our first ever members meeting. Pray that it would be an encouraging time for everyone, as we seek to develop a culture of discipleship in this local body.
  • Baptisms and presentation of new members is just around the corner. Pray for those getting baptized, that this step of obedience would be done for the glory of God and that those visiting would see a visual testimony of the power of God for salvation.

Prayer requests

  • For Alberto, as he continues preaching through the book of John on Sunday mornings. Pray also for him as he teaches Old Testament Survey classes every Tuesday and Thursday nights. Pray also for the students, that they may grow in holiness and maturity through this courses.
  • For Kathy during this pregnancy, that she may trust the Lord in the midst of pregnancy sickness and changes. Praise the Lord the baby is stable, growing, and doing well!
